Comparing Growth Rates World growth rates are very uneven: • Birthrate – birthrate vs. death rate. • Immigration – move in • Emigration – move out • Zero population growth – when birthrate equals death rate
The Nature of Culture Difference in population patterns are reflections of different cultures
Culture Culture Hearths – place where important ideas begin and from which they spread to surrounding cultures Language – the cornerstone of a culture and reflects their identity Religion – helps people answer basic questions about the meaning and purpose of life Cultural Landscape – technology is important part of culture. As resource are used, people produce unique cultural landscapes
