Why Building Permit is important? • It is a legal document that proves to the government and other licensed officials that the individual is following the appropriate guidelines and policies • It is used for planning and building commercial and residential structures • It contains the rules and regulations that must be followed by architects, engineers, contractors, homebuilders, electricians and plumbers to ensure the safety of the structure before, during and after its completion, and safety and security of those who will be working in order to build it along with its current and future occupants.

  3. What is a building permit? • A legal document which has the necessary information about a residential and commercial structure.

When is a building permit needed? • Most of the time, a building permit is needed when you plan to build a structure such as houses, dormitories, apartments, condominiums, academic institutions, commercial infrastructures, recreation centres such as parks, libraries, baseball fields and aquatic centres, supermarkets and shopping malls.

A building permit is also needed if you wish to renovate an existing structure. • It is needed to build any kind of infrastructure or extension for an establishment such as an overpass for a private school, a parking reconstruction, you are required to have a permit before construction begins. • It is also necessary when installing a new roof or when adding a veranda, deck or porch to a house. • It also applies when renovating a detached building such as barns, storage shacks and sheds Note: If you plan on tearing down a wall or demolishing anything, you are still required to own a building permit.
