Thursday, January 31, 2013 • Make sure your name is on your homework and turn it in! • Review of All Things Linear Worksheet • IF you still have not turned in the rough draft of your poem…turn it in today!
Intro To Transformations We are going to start working with transforming figures in the coordinate plane. To help get you acquainted with the transformations (translation, dilation, reflection, and rotation) we are going to do a quick graphing activity. Graph each triangle!
Questions #5-8 Match each triangle with each transformation! Remember ∆ABC is your original figure.
Answers 5) translation 6) Rotation 7) Reflection 8) Dilation SUPER!
Translation shift either left, right, up, or down • Left and right – go with ____ coordinate • Up and down – go with _____ coordinate
Example 2: Move parallelogram RSTU down 4 units and to the left 1 unit
Dilations - make a figure larger or smaller
Example 3: ∆MOP has the given vertices; dilate it by a scale factor of ½.
Example 4: Rectangle ROCK has vertices at R(1,-1), O(4,-1), C(1,2), and K(4,2). Graph rectangle ROCK and then dilate it by a scale factor of 2. algebraic representation:
Example 5: Given that ∆CAT has vertices at C(2,3), A(0,-8), and T(-5,6). Translate the triangle 3 units up and 2 units to the right and then dilate it by a scale factor of ¼. Find the coordinates of the transformed triangle.
Homework • Transformations Worksheet (only the first 5 questions) • Labeled “Thursday” • This has 4 days worth of homework SO make sure you do not loose it. • It will be taken up on the day of the test (Wednesday, January 6th) and graded! • CR #1 DUE TOMORROW
