Cougar Administrators • Mrs. Weddle, Principal – 6th Grade • Mrs. Kellogg, AP – 7th Grade • Mr. Jacobs, AP – 8th Grade Your administrators are responsible for monitoring your instruction, preparing you for the next level, and teaching you appropriate behavior. We do NOT enjoy when you do not follow expectations and we do NOT enjoy administering consequences. We want to help you make better choices.
Cougar Counselors • Ms. Taylor – Guidance Specialist • Ms. Purnell – 8th Grade • Ms. Pertell – 7th Grade • Ms. Brooks – 6th Grade Services: Go to student services to talk through problems, discuss grades and academic performance, plan for high school, get involved with activities, etc.
Promotion Standards • WCPSS Board Policy 5530 states that students in grades 6-8 must meet the following criteria for promotion: • Pass Mathematics ANDLanguage Arts • Pass Science or Social Studies • Pass 50% of their remaining classes (electives) • Earn a Level III or above on Reading AND Mathematics End of Grade (EOG) test (8th Grade MUST also pass Science) Students who do not meet ALL of these criteria are at risk for retention

Code of Student Conduct • Is designed to help you understand the expectations of all students attending Wake County Schools. • Social and Behavioral expectations • Outlines Disciplinary Consequences for not meeting expectations • Principal’s Discretion
Routine Expectations • Be on time for school and class • Dress out and participate in PE and Fitness • Carry your agenda at all times • Walk and Talk • Remember to WALK not run. • Stay in your assigned hallway • Do not enter a hallway that is not assigned to your grade level. Use your assigned staircases. • We don’t deal with dares
Appropriate conduct during transition • Walk on the right side and use appropriate level of volume. There is no need to yell or scream. • No PDA • Keep your locker clean and secure • Use your assigned lock to secure your locker and keep it clean at all times. • Lock your PE locker • Clean the cafeteria • Be prepared to clean the cafeteria after lunch. Be sure to stack your trays, clean the floors and table tops before you leave with your class
Do not bring inappropriate items to school. • Remember that you cannot sell items (i.e. gum/candy) at school. • You can not trade items at school • Gum is prohibited • If you are observed chewing gum, be prepared to serve lunch detention or serve a day in ISS. • No Go List • Students who owe fees and fines will not be allowed to play sports, try out, attend after school activities, field trips, etc • Dress appropriately • Listed in your agenda
Your focus should be your schoolwork • 6410 (D) – Class/Activity Disturbance • Don’t interfere with your teacher’s teaching and your peer’s learning • 6410 (F) – Disrespect/Noncompliance. • Comply with all adult directives • Inappropriate conduct includes but is not limited to verbal, nonverbal, or physical conduct showing disrespect; repetitive tardies, skipping class/school, leaving campus without permission, or being in an unauthorized area. • 6410 (G) – Cursing and using obscene language in anyway is prohibited • 6410 (H) – Theft. Don’t steal. If you find something turn it in. It is not yours. • 6410 (I) – Tobacco. Not on school grounds, ever.
No Electronics • No student shall use, display, transmit or have in the “on” position on school property any wireless communication device or personal entertainment device, including but not necessarily limited to, cell phones, pages, MP3 players (IPOD), electronic games, etc. • Any device possessed or used in violation of this policy shall be confiscated and only returned to the student’s parents/guardians.
Harassment/Bullying • Definition of harassment/bullying • Any repeated behavior or physical act on school property that (1) places a student in fear or harm, or (2) creates a hostile environment for the student • Harassing or bullying behavior includes: • Facebook messages • Texting • Physical harassment • Verbal harassment • Sexual harassment
No Gang Related Activity • Gang and gang-related activity pose a safety threat to students of the WCPSS and can disrupt the educational environment. • Conduct prohibited by this policy include: • Wearing, possessing, displaying symbols, tattoos, etc that intend to convey or promote membership or affiliation in any gang • Communicating verbally or non-verbally the promotion of gang membership or affiliation • Tagging or defacing school or personal property with symbols or slogans intended to convey or promote membership or affiliation in a gang • Inciting other students to intimidate or to act with physical violence up any other person in connection with gang-related activity • Soliciting others for gang membership (recruiting) • First violation – Long Term Suspension Recommendation
WFMS is not a playground • 6425 (A) – Physical Aggression/Fighting – No student shall engage in fighting or physical aggression toward others, including: • Choking, hitting, slapping, shoving, scratching, spitting, biting or throwing objects at another person in an aggressive manner. • 6425 (B) – Assault on Student – No student shall: • Cause serious injury to any student • Attempt to cause serious injury to another student • Behave in a manner that could reasonable cause serious physical injury • What is self-defense? • A student who is attacked may use reasonable force in self-defense, but only to the extent necessary to get free from the attack and notify school authorities • A student who exceeds reasonable force may be disciplined even though someone else provoked the fight.
No Weapons….enough said • Weapons • Any firearm, BB gun, stun gun, mace/pepper spray, air rifle, air piston, ammunition, power loads, fireworks, knife, slingshot, leaded cane, blackjack, metallic knuckles, razors, razor blades, boxcutter and any sharp-pointed or edged instruments • Dangerous instruments/Substances • Any object or substance that is possessed, handled, transmitted, or used for the purpose of causing or attempting to cause physical injury • Facsimile of a weapon • Any copy of a weapon that could reasonably be perceived to be a real weapon • Firearm • Any gun, shotgun, pistol, firearm silencer, or part thereof, or any powerful explosive, including dynamite or any other explosive device
Narcotics, Alcoholic Beverages, Controlled Substances, Chemicals, and Drug Paraphernalia Mandatory long term suspension & a costly program
Keep the bus safe! • Students at all times while riding a school bus or other school vehicle shall observe the directives of the school bus driver • All school rules apply on the bus • Do not delay the bus for any reason • School transportation is a privilege, not a right.
