This is the beginning of rhetorical analysis.

Academic Design • Academic writing also has visual design • It is quite a bit simpler in most cases • Do not be fooled, it is purposefully simple • Simplicity is meaningful and useful
Academic Format Choices • Don’t format essays like this. • Don’t type essays like this, either. • Cool text is reserved for some other place. • Lovely, and not for a college essay. • Sans serif fonts like these are good for presentations and websites. • This font is the most readable of fonts for a college essay.
I require standard MLA • All of the text book recommendations about formatting and design are great for many situations. • I require MLA style formatting. • This contradicts some of the formatting suggestions on page 47. Please be aware of that. • Do follow the model and criteria given for formatting on pages 660-667 (Chapter on MLA guidelines).
