Document quality checklist • Is the document an appropriate length – not more than 20 pages for a typical 1-hour meeting? Did you circulate pre-reading to maximize time for discussion and put essential backup materials in an appendix? • Does the document follow a logical structure with a single governing thought and 3 to 5 main supporting points, each backed up by analysis and argument? • Have you included a clear, concise executive summary highlighting the main points and the decisions to be made? • Are your exhibits legible – no smaller than 12 pt for discussion documents; 18 pt or larger for presentations? • Does each exhibit have 1 main message, expressed in a crisp, compelling lead that is no more than 2 lines long, is written as a sentence, and uses a consistent and parallel syntax? • Is the language clear, simple, and grammatically correct, with no jargon and no “consultant speak”? • Have you checked the document carefully for typos? Is the math accurate, and are the footnotes and other page elements in the right places? Are there sources where needed?
