Introduction to the Ritual • The Ceremony: Solemn, Impressive and Beautiful • Inspires lessons of Charity and Perseverance • Thought provoking… • Final Earthly End, Death, Resurrection, Final Judgement • Faithful Navigator of the Grand Chapter is the keeper of “The Ritual” • Remains in the possession of the Faithful Navigator at ALL times • Kept concealed from public or private view • Should be turned over to her successor upon a newly elected Navigator, upon her death, resignation or disqualification • Do Not Copy The Ritual • One copy is sufficient for each Grand Chapter • Copies of various instructions and speaking parts can be given to the various Officer’s of the Exemplification
Paraphernalia / Items Necessary • The Book of Ceremonies (Ritual) • Small white candles and candle holders for each candidate • Blindfolds for each candidate • A table for placing the regalia of candidates • Principal piece of paraphernalia: Kneeler, Cross • Light of Faith (a lighted candle symbolizes Jesus, the Light of the World • One (1) set of full regalia for each candidate • Chairs for the Master of Degree, the Escorts of Honor, and any current Supreme Officers in attendance
Paraphernalia / Items NecessaryContinuation • Papal and American Flag • Music (CD, Cassette, song sheets) • Three Rooms (Ante Room, Exemplification Chamber, Waiting/Prayer Room) • Secure all rooms to ensure privacy • Matches and/or lighter • Candle snuffer if possible
Officers of the Exemplification • The Master of the Degree • Usually the Navigator or her duly designated and authorized representative • Faithful Escorts of Honor to the Master of the Degree (at least two) • Faithful Bearer of the Book of Ceremonies • Faithful Bearer of the Light of Faith • Faithful Bearer of the Cross and Baldric • Faithful Commandant of the Guards and her assistants (if possible, two) • Faithful Outer / Inner Sentinels
Officers of the ExemplificationContinuation The Officers of the Exemplification should not be considered an unchangeable “TEAM” in the strict sense of the word. In keeping with the principals of the Fourth Degree, and in order that all Gracious Ladies of the Grand Chapter may, from time to time, actually participate in the ceremonies and not just be bystanders. Different Gracious Ladies may, and should be, appointed to serve as Officers of the Exemplification. Their appointments should be announced by the Faithful Navigator at a meeting prior to the Exemplification to allow for preparation.
Exemplification Preparation • Candidates are Exemplified Individually • Chambers should be prepared in advance • Candidates should assemble at least one (1) hour prior to the time scheduled to start • The Faithful Commandant of the Guards and her assistants perform an inspection of the Candidates • Mandatory for Gracious Lady Participants (not candidates) • White robe, white gloves, white suit with a white blouse, white shoes • At a given point in the ceremony, the Master of the Degree will wear her full regalia • No entrance is allowed into the Ante Room or Exemplification without a white robe
Exemplification PreparationContinuation • Candidates Requirements • Must meet all requirements for membership: application, fees, regalia • Must present themselves for the ceremonies at the time and place designated • Dressed in the full and correct uniform of the rank, except the Beret, the Baldric, the Cross and the Shoulder Braid • Should be required to bring their rosaries, gloves, and a gold chain 20-22 inches in length • Candidates will not be permitted to wear the Fourth Degree Pin until they receive it during the formal ceremony *** ALL REGULATIONS SHOULD BE STRICTLY ENFORCED***
