Anafi Camel

Anafi Camel • Scientific Name: Camelus dromedarius • Anafi camels live in North East Sudan(African Continent) a Desert Area • They are omnivore’s and eat off of plants • The average height of a camel is 7 to 8 ft. tall, a fully grown camel weight is about 1542 lbs. They live usually in small or larger groups • Anafi camels have a small hump on its back. • They are white or golden in color • Anafi camels are fast racing camels but are also known to be able to swim • They are used for riding and carrying things • These camels show an owners social standing, the bigger the herd, the higher social standing you have. • Sudan has the second largest number of camels • Name: Bangair and Butanah

2. Sumatran Orangutan • Scientific name: Pongo abelii • Sumatran orangutans live on a island of Sumatra, Indonesia on the Indian Ocean (Asia), in the Rainforest • They are Omnivores, fruits like figs, insects and plant matter are their diet • They grow 4-5 ft. in height, the males can weight up to 200lbs and the females up to 100 lbs. • Orangutans live up to 45 years and arboreal, which means they live most of their time in the trees. Males are solitary and females are less so, children usually will stay with them until around seven years old. • They are endangered animals because the rainforest is quickly disappearing on the island. • They have long red hair and they grab things with both their hands and feet, which helps them to move in the trees. • Name: Pongobella, Suma, and China

3. California Sea Lions • Scientific name: Zalophus californianus • They live on the eastern North Pacific Ocean from Canada to Mexico. Their biome is rocky and sandy beaches of coastal islands and mainland shorelines on the Pacific ocean, that includes California (N. America) and the Galapagos Islands (S. America) • California Sea Lions are carnivores, they have a diet of more than 50 species of fish and cephalopods including herring, octopus, squid, hake and anchovies • They weigh between 200 and 400 lbs. The California sea lion Is faster than any other sea lion. They playful, loud and usually hang out with large packs. You can see them sunning together. • California sea lions can hunt up to 30 hours at one time, and their dives can last up to 3-5 minutes • Name: Scellia and Shelldon

4. Western Gorilla • Scientific name: Gorilla • These African dwellers live in tropical forests of the west lowland parts of Cameroon, Central African Republic, Gabon, Congo, and Equatorial Guinea (West Africa). • Gorillas are omnivores but eat mostly plant material which means they are mostly herbivores. Their diet includes mostly fruits, but they also eat leaves, seeds, stems and insects like termites and caterpillars. • They are the biggest of the primates. The get to be about 5 – 5.5 feet tall and the females are about 150lbs., the males 375lbs. • They are very social and seem to have a good time together and several that live together are called a “troop”. • 98% of a gorillas DNA makeup is the same as humans • They are considered the most intelligent animal in the world. • They will never sleep in the same nest twice. 5. Jaguar • Scientific Name: Panthera onca • They live in wet lowland areas, swampy grassland near rivers or lakes. They are found in both North and South American. In the USA they are found in Texas, Arizona, California, and New Mexico. In Central and South American they are found in the rainforests, like the Amazon. • Jaguars are carnivores. They eat small animals, fish, and turtles. They like to climb trees and ambush their victims and kill them with ONE bite. There are 60 different kinds of animals • They grow to about 5-6 feet and weight 100 to 250 lbs. Jaguars are the third biggest cat known to man and live for about 20 years. • Jaguars live alone and mark their territory with their waste. 6. Eastern Grey Kangaroos • Scientific name: Macropus giganteus • TheEastern Grey Kangaroo lives in southern and eastern Australia in the forests. • Kangaroos are herbivores, eating grasses. They like to live among trees for shelter and coolness but will roam the grasslands to eat. • The gray kangaroos are called the great kangaroos because they are larger than the other types. They can also reach speeds of 35 miles an hour and grow up to 7 feet tall and weigh 120 lbs. Typically kangaroos live 8-10 years. • Kangaroos are marsupials and carry their babies in a pouch. They have one baby at a time and the baby is smaller than a cherry when it they climb into the pouch. They are called “Joey’s” • Kangaroos live in groups called “Mobs”. 7. Plains Zebra • Scientific name: Equus Quagga • Plains Zebras are found from Ethiopia to South African regions in the savannahs , open woodlands, and forest areas. • Zebras are herbivores eating short grasses, leaves, and other vegetation's available. • Adult Plains Zebras stand 4-4.75 feet tall. On average they weigh 450-600 lbs. Zebras live to about 25 years. • Stripes on zebras will differ from type to type. The plains zebra will have a Y shapes in the middle of its back. • Zebras spend time with her herds eating together and grooming each other. The remain close to their herds for protection. They live in small families groups with one male and several females and their young. • Lions and hyenas are their enemies. 8. Tarantula • Scientific name Aphonopelma sp. • Tarantulas live in tropical and sub-tropical areas. You will find them mostly in countries near or below the equator. You can find them on North and South America, Africa, Asia, tiny part of Europe, and Australia. • Being carnivores they like to east insects, frogs, toads, and mice. They don’t use webs to grab their prey, instead they spin a trip wire to alert them when something approaches. • Tarantulas measure almost 5” long with a leg span up to 11”. They weigh about a 1lbs, which is many-many times larger than a common house spider. • They are lone, slow, and deliberate creatures. Females will put both eggs and sperm in one cocoon and guard it for six to nine weeks. • Name: Tulip and Taran

9. Peregrine Falcons • Scientific name:: Falcon peregrinus • Peregrine Falcons are found on every continent except Antarctica. They prefer wide open spaces. They thrive near where coastal shore bird live. They can be found in any biome from tundra to desserts. They like to reside in high places. • Peregrine Falcons are carnivores eating other birds such as ducks, pheasants, and pigeons. • Their size is 14-19 inches but their wing span can be up to 3-3.5 feet long! They weigh a little over a pound to about five pounds. They will live up to 17 years. • They will fly over 15,000 a year. The male will court the female for about a month and they will mate for life! 10. African Elephant • Scientific name: Loxodonta • African Elephants live primarily in the Savanah Desert on the continent of Africa, some will also live in the forest too. • These gentle beasts are herbivores and eat plants, trees, bark, plup, fruits, shrubs, or anything that is vegetation. They will consume 600 lbs. of food per day. They can only digest about 40% of their food that is why they eat so much every day. • African Elephants can grow to 12 feet tall and weigh 1,400 lbs. They have larger ears than their counterparts, the Asian Elephant. • The males are sometimes loners, but the females are extremely social. 11. African Lion • Scientific Name: Panthera Leo • The African Lion lives in sub-Saharan Africa. They like to live in open plains, woodlands, thick bush, and semi dessert. • They are Carnivores and eat antelopes, zebras, wild beast, and other large animals. The female lions are the pride’s primarily hunters. They work together to stalk upon their prey. • The Lions head and body Is 4.5 to 6.5 in while its tail is up to 39.5 in. They weigh up to 420 lbs. • African Lions are the only cats that live in groups, that are called prides. 12. Chinstrap Penguin • Scientific name: Pygoscelis Antarcticus • Chinstrap Penguins are usually on hillside slopes and rocky out crops in different colonies that can be enormous. They are found in South Shetland. • They are carnivores and they eat krill, fish, and shrimp, but they love the krill • The Penguins grow up to 27 in and weigh up to 13 lbs. They live between 15 and 20 years • Chinstrap Penguins leave their breeding colonies during the winter and stay at sea until next spring. They build their nests from stones. 13. Red Eyed Tree Frog • Scientific name: Agalychnis Callidryas • The Red Eyed Tree Frog is in tropical lowlands, that are in southern Mexico, Central America, and Northern South America. They Live in rain forest canopy. • They are Carnivore’s and eat ambush crickets, flies, and moths with their sticky tongues. Their predators are bats, owls, snakes, tarantulas, toucans, and young alligators. The red eyed tree frogs colors will over simulate their predators that make ghost image for the predators that remains behind as the frog jumps away. • The frog is 2 to 3 in and they weigh up to 15 oz. 14. Pygmy Hippo • Scientific Name: Choeropsisliberiensis • Pygmy Hippos live mostly in Liberia (West Africa), but they are also some living in Sierra Leone, Guinea, and the Ivory Coast. They live in Humid forest and swamps. • They are Herbivores and eat succulents, tender shoots, leaves, roots, grasses, fallen fruit, and aquatic plant. Their Predators are Leopards, Pythons and crocodiles. • They grow up to 2 ½ ft. and weigh up to 550 lbs. The baby calves weigh about 14 lbs. The Hippo lives from 30 to 50 years. • They are more active between 6pm and midnight and they live on their own. There are less that 3,000 Pygmy Hippos in the world. • Name: Chloe
