  1. Estate Planning That is estate planning—making a plan in advance and naming whom you want to receive the things you own after you die.

  2. Regardless of age, circumstance, or personal finances, everyone should have an estate plan.

  3. The importance of an estate plan and breaks down the three core pieces that an estate plan contains: a healthcare proxy (someone who can make important medical decisions on your behalf should you be unable to do so yourself), a durable power of attorney (a document that allows a person of your choice to make decisions regarding your finances), and the last will and testament (a document that stipulates how your assets should be divided amongst beneficiaries.

  4. Become aware of some of the falsehoods surrounding estate plans and learn more about why estate planning is essential!

  5. Every estate is subject to a federal tax, but estates under a certain total value are exempt from the federal estate tax.

  6. To be valid, your Final Disposition Instructions must be signed by you in the presence of a notary public and two witnesses. You can revoke this document anytime by destroying it, revoking it in writing, and or creating and executing a new set of Instructions

  7. If the person you have chosen to carry out your wishes agrees, it is expected that s/he will follow through on your instructions when the time comes to celebrate your life after you pass.
