Growth & Land Use • Green Buildings • Transit Oriented Development • Pedestrian Friendly Mixed Use Development • Pedestrian Friendly Commerce • Tree Preservation and Canopy Goals • Natural Landscaping Practices
Air Quality & Transportation • Air Quality Education • Transit Program • Trails and Sidewalks • Employer Service Program • Metrochek • Telework • Van/Car Pool • Ridesources
Energy Efficiency • Energy Management Control Systems • Energy Star Equipment • Energy Star Lighting • Energy Code Compliance • Energy Audits • HVAC Right-Sizing
Energy Efficiency Example Government Center Project: • Installed Constant volume air handling units with variable frequency drives and energy efficient motors • Replaced all existing lighting fixtures (T8 32W lamps) with T8 28W lamps • Upgraded lighting control software Cost: $510,000 (one-time, nonrecurring cost) Benefit: $83,000/year lower electricity costs + 2.4 million pounds of CO2 reduced. Payback: 6.1 years
Renewable Energy • Wind Energy • Landfill Gas Recovery & Utilization • Waste to Energy
Renewable Energy Example I-66 Landfill Gas To Energy Project: • Installed 2,500 feet of four inch HDPE pipe from a flare station at the closed I-66 Landfill to the Department of Vehicle Services Garage at the West Ox Facility • Installed radiant heaters designed to use landfill gas (50% methane content) Cost: $300,000 (one-time, nonrecurring cost – design/build) Benefit: $70,000/year lower natural gas costs + methane gas usage Payback: 4.3 years
Fleets/Vehicles/Equipment • Alternative Fueled Vehicles • Electric Vehicles • Electric Equipment • Reduced Idling Program • Retrofits • Ordinance
