  3. A good introduction will have the following: • Motivator • Thesis Statement • Blueprint

  4. What does a MOTIVATOR do? GRABS THE READER’S ATTENTION!!!

  5. What does the THESIS do? THE MAIN IDEA (ANSWERS THE QUESTION)

  6. What does the BLUEPRINT do? OUTLINES THE MAIN POINTS OF YOUR ESSAY POINT 1= PARAGRAPH ONE POINT 2= PARAGRAPH TWO POINT 3- PARAGRAPH THREE

  7. What goes in each BODY PARAGRAPH? • Match up the following Paragraph 1 Your Life Experience Paragraph 2 Prompt Given Paragraph 3 Text Studied in Class

  8. What texts have we studied this year? The Wild Children Holes Gore Taste of Melon Long Long Afterschool Elf Beauty and the Beast How to Tell Renata Golden Girl Twelfth Night

  9. A good BODY will… • Relate back to your thesis statement. • Form a bridge or transition to the next idea. • Contain the following: • Topic sentence • Point one • Supporting evidence for point one • Point two • Supporting evidence for point two • Point three • Supporting evidence for point three • Concluding sentence

  10. A good CONCLUSION will.. • Summarize your essay and tie up any loose ends. • NOT introduce any new information or arguments in your conclusion.

  11. Conclusions contain: • Restatement of the thesis • Restatement of topic sentences • Terminator

  12. What else to remember? • DO NOT USE I or ME or MY in any other paragraph than paragraph number _____ • Make a TITLE • Double Space • EDIT • THINK OF ALL THE GRAMMAR RULES YOU KNOW (REVIEW THEM IF NECESSARY!)

  13. Your Assignment…. • Review the topic given, read it over and begin planning for your essay. • Tomorrow you will be in the computer lab writing your Introduction (FULLY), planning your body paragraphs (BRIEFLY), and writing your conclusion!

  14. When I get to the lab • Log onto my computer • Click on the Hand In Pick Up Folder • Click on Pick Up • Click on Kunys • Open up EssayAssignmentNINES • Complete the assignment, save, print, staple, hand in! (USE YOUR ID NUMBER, NO NAMES!)
