Current State of WCET Programs • Strategically, WCET certification and wireless training may be the most salient programs ComSoc offers to industry, and especially to practicing wireless communications engineers; • Combination of WCET certification and wireless training will generate a surplus moving forward; • Both programs will be feeders to each other - inter-dependent; • Return on initial investment by IEEE and ComSoc for the past several years since its inception.
Current Priorities of WCET Programs • Enhance WCET Value Proposition - Brand recognition by both WCET certification holders and hiring organizations, and value realization by both training course students and sponsoring organizations. • Evaluate ROI of Strategic Areas - Program could expand to build certifications or at least training for multiple levels, multiple segmentations, and additional technologies, once the workload can allow for this. • Strengthen Training/Education for Positive Cash Flow - Since the success with web based intensive course was so sudden, the team is currently not well equipped to deal with current volumes and future growth. We need to evolve both volunteer and staff support for this. • WEBOK Updates, Exam Development - A major consideration for this program is that it needs a steady stream of new, keen volunteers in many areas. • Re-certification is underway - this is urgent - The policies were published in the 2012 Handbook and alumni are being informed that the first contingent must apply by 2013. They will need to collect and start recording data about their accomplishments in 2012.
Miscellaneous Issues for WCET Programs • There are also associated issues, such our intent to gain future accreditation for the program, which cannot be done unless there is a clear separation between the certification and any training. • A basic requirement of accreditation organizations is that any related training be handled through a separate committee, and that there is no public perception that people are locked in to ComSoc training in order to take/pass the exam. • One issue is to ensure that within ComSoc the reporting structure honors the separation of the management of Education and of WCET, as per the accreditation requirements.
