Abel and His Offering • Eve gave birth to Abel and he was a keeper of sheep. Genesis 4: 1-2 • Abel’s offering was the first born of his flock. Genesis 4:4 • The God respected Abel’s offering. Hebrews 11:4 • Abel offered his sacrifice in faith, testifying of his righteousness before God
What are the Differences Between the Two Sacrifices? • Abel brought the first of his flock unto God for an offering. • The God had respect for Abel because of his offering. • Cain brought the grain (fruit of the ground) as an offering unto God. • The God had no respect for Cain and his offering.

God Accepted Abel and His Sacrifice and Not Cain’s • Abel brought the first and the best of his flock and gave it with a cheerful heart. • Cain brought some grain or fruit but not described as the first fruits. • Cain’s attitude toward the sacrifice was the reason it was rejected.
Cain’s Reaction • Cain was angry at God. • God cautioned him to do the right thing and to endure that sin did not rule over him. • Cain ignored God’s warning and chose to sin and murder his brother. • Cain lied to God and said he did not know and turned the questioning back to God.
God’s Reaction to Cain’s sin • God cursed the ground so that it would not yield for Cain. • God condemned Cain to be a fugitive and a wanderer on the earth. • God demonstrated mercy on Cain.
