History • Novant Health is a not-for profit, integrated healthcare system that serves people in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and other regions • Novant was formed July 1, 1997 by the merger of Carolina Medicorp of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Presbyterian Health Services of Charlotte, North Carolina • Our facilities and physicians participate in virtually every managed care plan which provides local employers and consumers with a significant degree of choice in the marketplace.

  3. Organization • The Leadership at Novant Health is a team of very strong individuals, starting with Paul M. Wiles, the President over Novant Health since 1997. • Next in the same category as Wiles, is Carl Armato, the President over Novant Core Markets since 1998. Armato is also a certified public accountant licensed in Louisiana and North Carolina. • Gregory J. Beier, President over Acute Care Services. Beier is a member of the North Carolina State Health Coordinating Council. • Under the Presidents is Jacque Gattis, Chief Administrative Officer of Novant Health since 2004 • Next comes Fred Hargett, Chief Financial Officer over Novant Health. • Dean Swindle, President of Ambulatory Services over Novant Health. • And to finish it off there is Stephen L. Wallenhaupt, MD, Chief Medical Officer over Novant Health from 2001-2006.

  9. CommunityInvolvement • Novant Health providers and facilities regularly reach out to their communities to benefit at-risk and disadvantaged populations. Novant provides community education and screenings and it also supports health clinics that provide care for the uninsured. • In addition, facilities and staff members are active in various community partnerships that benefit organizations like United Way, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Physicians Reach Out, Habitat for Humanity and many others.
