Why literary works must be appreciated ? • We can learn more about ourselves • We can learn more about society • We can learn to understand the motivations of others • We can identify with characters and learn from them • We can have fun and enjoyment • We can learn to understand and become more tolerant of people, ethnic groups, and races that are different from ourselves

  4. Model of Literary Appreciation • Paraphrase • Analytical approach • Historical approach

  5. Paraphrase • to repeat something written or spoken using different words, often in a humorous form or in a simpler and shorter form that makes the original meaning clearer • The purpose is to simplify the word choices to grab the message and / or value of the literary work

Analytical Approach • To analyze the intrinsic elements which construct the literary works and analyze the impact to the reader • To see how the writer use plot • To see how the writer use imagery • To see how the writer use figurative language & style • To see how the writer use dialogue • To see how the writer use rhyme • etc

  7. Historical approach • To see how historical background of the writer or writers’ life of the writer influence the creation of the literary works. • To see how historical background of a nation or the culture of the local society influence the creation of the literary works
