Implementing a Preschool in Arctic Slope Regional Corporation Company: A Feasibility Study English 212: Technical Writing Emily Glatt
Overview From: Clip Art Best • Introduction • Criteria • Methods • Research Results • Conclusions • Recommendations From: Developmental Learning Center
Introduction • Determine if it is feasible to implement a preschool into Arctic Slope Regional Corporation (ASRC). • Talked about benefits of having a preschool and who would be impacted. • Research that was needed to be done: - To find a curriculum - Is there a building that the preschool could be in - Are there standards for implementing a preschool - Is there money in ASRC’s budget to support a preschool
Criteria • Is there facility that could be rented or purchased for childcare center? • Is there a curriculum that could be used? • Is there enough in ASRC budgets to have a childcare center? • Is there a preschool standard for the State of Alaska? • Are there rules and guidelines that need to be followed? • Is ASRC financial able to support opening a childcare? • Is a preschool recommended enough to open and make a profit?
Methods • Researched multiple topics: • Curriculums • Building in the Anchorage area. • ASRC budgeting • Alaska standards on Preschools • Survey was conducted to view what the public’s view was on: • preschool • school readiness • at home care.
Research Results Building, Curriculum, and Municipality of Anchorage Requirements • There multiple buildings available, but hard to tell if they will work without being there physically to see it. • I found a curriculum called HighScope. • The start up cost is expensive, with a total of $409.60. • Meets all of Alaska standards for early childhood education. • The Municipality does have requirements and guidelines for opening a childcare. • AMC 16.55.010-.500
Research Results Teaching Standards and Budget • State of Alaska as teaching requirements. • Document has what preschool age students should be developing and what they should be able to do before kindergarten • There is no for sure way of knowing ASRC budget • They do donate significant amounts to • Charities • Shareholders
Research Results SurveyResults • Figure 1. Percent of whether or not a childcare/ preschool should use a curriculum. • This graph shows that 79% of surveyed people say that curriculums should be use.
Research Results Survey Results Figure 2. Where people stand on where the most cognitive, physical, emotional, and social development will happen. This graph shows how close the results are. Childcare / Preschool is 36% were and home and “ it would be equal” are the same at 32%.
Research Results Survey Results Figure 3.Thoughts on if child is better suited for kindergarten if they go to preschool before rather staying home. This graph shows that the majority of people think a child is better suited for kindergarten if they attend preschool first.
Conclusions • After researching and looking over what research what done the following conclusion have been made: • From the survey, we can say that school readiness is important and the development that happens preschool is beneficial. • There are building available in the Anchorage area. • There is a curriculum out there that can be purchased like HighScope. • There are guidelines and requirements for opening a child care. • There are standards for the State of Alaska on what preschool age children should be learning.
Recommendations • Although it looks like it is feasible to open and implement a child care/ preschool I believe that research should still be been to confirm the financial capability and physically for a preschool within your company. I recommend that: • Look within the financial of ASRC be done to see if they could support the facility • Poll/ Survey of the ASRC employee that would use the preschool for their children. • Physically go look into possible facility places.
