Working with words • You should learn the Longman Defining Vocabulary as quickly as possible, because it constitutes about 60-80% of a text.
Working with words • You should work on the Academic Word List using the AWL Highlighter and AWL Gapmaker, because the AWL combined with the LDV gives about 90% coverage of most texts.
Working with words 2 • If you don’t have much time, think about your priorities. • If you know most of the LDV words, or if they don’t seem so important, you may want to concentrate on the AWL.
Working with words 3: Web Vocab Profiler • After using the AWL Highlighter and Gapmaker a few times, you should try the Web Vocab Profiler.

Grammar & Phrases: Concordancing • A concordancer is a good tool for investigating the use of words within phrases and sentences.
