WHAT IS THE PSAT 10 & WHY AM I TAKING THIS EXAM? • Preliminary SAT (practice for the real deal in which you will take next year as a Junior) • Identifies students’ potential for success in advanced course work • Provides you data about your academic strengths and weaknesses • Your PSAT 10 scores do not get submitted to colleges • You could eligible for scholarships as a result of taking this exam (FREE MONEY $$$)

PSAT 10 Student Guide • You will be receiving your PSAT 10 Student Guide today • Look through the book to learn everything you need to know about preparing for the PSAT 10 • In the center of your guide, please take out the free copy of your Practice Test. • Practice is one of the best ways to prepare for the exam! You can score it right away at collegeboard.org/psat scoring to see how you did

  4. Student Data Consent Form • On the morning of the exam, students will then have the option to “opt” into Student Search. This service will provide you free information about admission opportunities and financial aid from colleges and scholarship programs. • If you select “yes” to participate in the program, you will be asked provide additional information about yourself such as your address/ phone number, interests, intended major, etc. You may choose to enter as much or as little information as you would like. • Please discuss with your parents/ guardians if opting into this service is a good idea for you at this time. They will also be receiving this information at home.

WHAT IS THE PSAT 10 LIKE? • This exam focuses on what you learn in high school and what you need to learn to succeed after you graduate • All sections are multiple choice, but some math questions- called grid-ins- will ask you to come up with the answer rather than select the answer Total Time: ~3h 45min

  6. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER I TAKE THE PSAT 10? You will have access to numerous resources to help understand what your PSAT score means and how you can improve your learning. • PSAT Score booklet • Personalize your results! Utilize the free resources available to you- Khan Academy, SAT practice tests and quizzes, and a free SAT app which gives you daily SAT practice questions CollegeBoard will email your results if you include that information on the pre-administration/bubbling

  7. WHY SHOULD YOU BE EXCITED TO TAKE THE PSAT 10? • You get to practice before the real deal… for FREE! • There truly are so many great resources available to you • This is the only state assessment for 10th graders  • You may qualify for scholarships (FREE MONEY $$$) • It’s half day of school

  8. WHERE TO GO AND WHEN? • Room rosters will be posted a week before test day under the Senior picture at the front entrance of the school, as well as in the West Wing by the stair case. • You MUST be outside of your assigned classroom by or before 7:45ready to test • The PSAT 10 is expected to be over around 11:45.

  9. LEAVE THESE DEVICES AT HOME! WHAT SHOULD YOU BRING ON TEST DAY? • Your photo id (student or state id will be accepted) • Bring two #2 pencils- NOT MECHANCIAL • Calculator- see the list of approved calculators in the Official Student Guide to the PSAT 10 on page 27 • Optional: Water bottle and snack • Your cellphone and tablets • Any item that can connect to the internet • Calculators with QWERTY keypads • Laptops or hand held computers • Calculators with a pen-input device or stylus

  10. So… • Be outside of your assigned classroom at 7:45 on Wednesday, April 10th • Practice before the practice test!
