  1. DAPAANZ TREATMENT SECTOR COMPETENCIES REVIEW 2009

  2. The MoH has commissioned a review of the addiction treatment sector competencies in order to support the broad addiction treatment workforce to have the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes required to deliver effective mental health and addiction treatment services.

  3. In line with the direction signalled in Te Kokiri the review is exploring the development of integrated core addiction treatment competencies inclusive of AOD and Problem Gambling and possibly tobacco

  4. Development of sub-specialist competencies additional to the core competency set will also be included as required, for example AOD Practitioner competencies; Problem Gambling Practitioner competencies and Smoking Cessation competencies.

  5. ensure clear links and compatibility with other competency frameworks including Let’s Get Real, Takarangi and Seitapu.

  6. Existing addiction treatment competencies - AOD, Gambling and Smoking Cessation are being fully considered in the review process.

  7. Competencies in addiction-related public health practice are not included in this review.

  8.
