Research Scholar Development Award (K22) • The purpose of the RSDA is to ease the transition to an academic position by enabling the recipient to focus on the establishment of his/her research laboratory prior to submitting applications for grant support. • Applicants must be either • postdoctoral fellows in an NIAID intramural laboratory, • postdoctoral trainees supported by an NIAID Institutional NRSA training grant (T32) or an NIAID Individual NRSA postdoctoral fellowship (F32), or • postdoctoral trainees supported by NIAID Research Supplements for Underrepresented Minorities (RSUMs). • This is a two-phase award
Independent Scientist Award (K02) • For newly independent scientists who can demonstrate the need for a period of intensive research focus as a means of enhancing their research careers. This award is intended to foster the development of outstanding scientists and enable them to expand their potential to make significant contributions to their field of research. • You’re eligible if you have a doctoral degree and your own research project grant (R01 or equivalent) • Most successful candidates are assistant professors or just-promoted associate professors
Midcareer Investigator Award in Patient-Oriented Research (K24) • For established clinicians or Ph.D.s committed to patient-oriented research • Must have concurrent support • Should have completed clinical training within past 15 years • Apply if you want to mentor young scientists engaged in clinical research • Only NIAID K award that is renewable
