12. Random Testing Solution – Avitar CASE STUDY #1 Illicit Drug Usage Reduced 9x … from 7.0% to 0.8% ! Archer Daniels Midland $30B Corporation Like the majority of U.S. corporations, ADM traditionally implemented a pre-employment drug testing program that relied on laboratory urine testing services. Senior management realized, however, that pre-employment screening delivered a limited solution to workplace drug abuse.
By implementing a corporate-wide Avitar oral-based random drug testing program, ADM, a $30B+ U.S. manufacturing company, reduced employee illicit drug usage from a 7% positive rate to less than 1%. Key elements of the ongoing drug free workplace program which covered all levels of the organization, include a centrally managed drug testing program, an effective communications program, and a comprehensive intranet-based management / reporting software system. Using available industry data, ADM is realizing an estimated $17M annual ROI.

13. The experiences of Gould Construction, a Colorado based “heavy equipment and highway” contractor, clearly demonstrate the direct relationship between drugs-of-abuse and accidents within the workplace. Construction is the most dangerous job in America (U.S. DOL), and also has one of the highest drug abuse rates among its workforce, at 25% or more (SAMSHA).
By implementing Avitar’s on-site testing solution, Gould Construction was able to reduce accidents from 19 to 0, and associated workers comp claims, and reduce the Company’s Workers Comp premium by 13%. Annual savings to Gould total over $1.5M.
