  1. Musical Editing When the music comes on, switch seats. Quickly, look at the presentation and follow the directions for the paper in front of you.

  2. IF THE ITEM IS INCORRECT: simply circle it to indicate the writer needs to work on this for the final draft. • IF THE ITEM IS CORRECT: draw a smiley face, a star, a 100%, something to indicate it was checked.

  3. Short stories have quotes around their titles, NOT underlined. Circle it if it is incorrect or draw a smiley face if it is correct.

  4. COUNT! Are there at least three integrated quotes?

  5. Integrated quotes.. • Outside of each citation there should be a period. • (Abe).

  6. Integrated Quotes • The citations should be (Abe) or (Ariyoshi). No page numbers or anything else.

  7. Integrated quotes • There should be no period or comma inside the quotation marks at the end of the quote. • “It is not chalk that will remake the world” (Abe).

  8. Integrated Quotes • There should be a lead-in to each quote. • Argon didn’t understand: “It’s …. • (use a colon if it’s a full sentence) • Argon insisted “you will be my Eve…

  9. Thesis The thesis should be the last sentence of the intro paragraph. It should have a subordinate adverbial clause.

  10. Stay there! • You are now going to do a formal peer edit of the paper in front of you and hopefully the other papers at the desk groups. • You will need a piece of paper with YOUR NAME and the NAME OF THE WRITER on it. • Look at the board for the items you will be commenting on.

  11. Peer Edit • Find 3 words that are dull, simple, repetitious, or otherwise could use improvement. Write the word and write a SUGGESTION for a replacement word or phrase. • Check the anecdote or scenario. How could the writer make it MORE detailed, elaborate and full of voice and mood? Make suggestions. • Find a place where the essay would benefit from more explanation, definition or detail. Make suggestions to improve.
