  1. Aim: What occurred within England and throughout the Middle Ages? Do Now: Find your card and sit at that seat. Get out your Global notebook and turn to the next blank page. Answer the following question: People from different cultures are immigrating to a country. They bring a variety of languages, religion, foods, etc. How might they contribute to and change the country they’re immigrating to?

Agenda • Do Now (5 minutes) • Review of classroom procedures and norms (10 minutes) 3) How the Norman Conquest Changed England (5 minutes) 4) Video Activity—Watch the videos and answer the following questions: (10 minutes for videos + 5 minutes for writing) --What is one example of how the English language changed after the Normans invaded? --What were at least two changes that the Norman Conquest broad to English society as a whole 5) HW Procedure and Review (7 minutes)

Today’s focus/rundown • Do Now (5 minutes) • Agenda(2-3 minutes) • Objective I: Editorial letter discussing Norman changes(20-22 minutes) • Since it’s a “CHANGE” literary piece, spend a few sentences (at least 2-3 discussing life before the changes made – focus on life during the pre-Norman invasion. • Second part: focus on the changes made/introduced by the Normans • Assess the changes made by the Normans: were they good or bad – explain in some details. • Review/actively reading brief article surrounding the history of the English language (5-7 minutes) • Personal Reflection (5-7 minutes) • Closing(2-3 minutes) • Quick review of homework# 5

  11. OBJECTIVE I Reread/review pages discussing “TheNorman Conquest,” “Parliament and Common Law” and the policies of William “The Conqueror and His successors,” on pp. 305 – 308. After doing such, I want students to a write letter to the editorial section of a fictional medieval newspaper evaluating the changes brought about by William and his successors. The letters ought to be written: • From the perspective of commoners who have lived under the rule of one or more of these Norman kings. • Briefly discuss the changes made – WHAT CHANGED? • Evaluate them – were they good or bad? Explain using specific details.
