What is EPAS? In 2001, the Louisiana Board of Regents released its Master Plan for Public Postsecondary education. One of the three primary goals outlined in the plan was to “increase opportunities for student access and success.” Implementation of the Educational Planning and Assessment System (EPAS) was one of the seven specific strategies listed to help achieve this end. EPAS is unique in that its programs can be mixed and matched in ways that meet the needs of individual schools, districts, or states.
Louisiana EPAS Purposes: • Raise academic standards and identify students’ readiness for accountability testing in the Spring. • Improve student preparation for important transitions – middle to high school and high school to college. 2

“Highlights” • Our district’s EXPLORE scores were at or above the National norm in all areas! • Our district’s EXPLORE scores for Math, Reading, and Science are up from the 2003-2004 school year. 6
“Highlights” or “Lowlights” • Our district’s EXPLORE scores were higher in most areas in 2002-2003. • Our district’s EXPLORE scores in Science were at least 1 point higher than any other subject. 7

EXPLORE and PLAN Louisiana Developmental Benchmarks The EXPLORE and PLAN Louisiana College Developmental benchmarks are based on the ACT scores required by Louisiana for entry into freshman college-level credit-bearing English and Mathematics courses. They reflect students’ expected growth from EXPLORE to PLAN to the ACT and assume sustained academic effect throughout high school.
