The French Higher Education System • ~ 80 Universities (XIIIth century): 1400000 students • ~ 230 Engineering Schools (XVIth century): 110000 students • Engineering Schools: selection of students • Comprehensive Universities: no selection of applicants (no gaokao) • until the 2nd year of the master’s curriculum • Engineering Schools : Engineering degree, MSc, PhD • Comprehensive Universities: BSc, MSc, PhD • The engineering degree gives you the MSc « Grade », but the converse is not true

The UT-INSA Network • 8 engineering schools out of 230BUT • 20% of the french engineering degrees awarded each year • 70 Research laboratories • 1500 Full Professors, Associate Professors and Researchers • 20000 Students in engineering curricula • 1500 PhD students • 400 PhD defences every year

  7. The CSC / UT-INSA PhD Program • You visit our website : www-csc.utt.frand selectPhD proposals (you can rank up to 3 PhD proposals) from the list proposed • You apply to our program. Selection procedure: www-csc.utt.fr • You are awarded a scholarship (monthly amount of 1200€, 42 month) by the CSC • You prepare a PhD in one of the laboratories of the UT-INSA network • You obtain the PhD degree from the institution you have selected • Only for UTT : possibility to prepare a double PhD at UTT and one of its international partners: you will be awarded 2 PhD degrees with a single defence. The scholarship is awarded for 48 months

Requirements • You must be top ranked (your transcripts, GPA, marks… are important) • You must be awarded the master’s degree* before june 2014 • You will have to get the visa to France (requirements, procedure) • *: If you are a master-doctorate candidate, you must be a 2nd year master student in june 2014

How to apply • Visit the website www-csc.utt.fr • Download the application form and fill it up • Select the PhD proposals that fit with your skills (and rank them, up to 3) • Send the application form and your records to ling.gong@utt.fr and to • your possible supervisors to get their feedback • Send by post the documents required by the CSC • Wait until mid January 2014 for a possible interview in China (February 2014) • Wait for the final decision (February 2014) • If admitted, go to Shanghaï to attend the Frenchlanguage training(from March to June) • Start your PhD in the UT-INSA network (Sept. 2014)
