State Accountability System • Exemplary • 90% Passing Rate for Each Student Group • 25% or Higher Commended Performance Rate • Recognized • 80% Passing Rate for Each Student Group • 15% or Higher Commended Performance Rate • Academically Acceptable • 70% Passing Rate for Each Student Group in Reading, Writing, Social Studies • 65% Passing Rate in Math for Each Student Group • 60% Passing Rate in Science for Each Student Group • Unacceptable: any score below Acceptable cutoff
Major Changes To The State Accountability System • The State of Texas Accountability System had major changes for the 2010-2011 school year • Discontinued the use of the Texas Projection Measure (TPM) • Added a standard for Commended Performance • 15% or higher for Recognized • 25% or higher for Exemplary • Included the scores of all special education students including students who took the TAKS Modified and the TAKS Alternate Assessments • Added a standard for English Language Learners (ELLs) • 60% or higher of ELLs must either progress one level on their Texas English Language Proficiency System (TELPAS) rating • Pass the reading/ELA TAKS test • Meet the standard on the TELPAS reading section • The state has been in the process of increasing the rigor of the TAKS tests over the past few years
Definition of Terms • Commended Performance Rate • of students who score at the commended performance level for each subject area and in the All Students and Economically Disadvantaged student groups • 15% or higher for Recognized • 25% or higher for Exemplary • English Language Learner Progress Measure • Combines results from TAKS reading/ELA and Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) • Met the passing standard on TAKS reading/ELA test, or • Met their proficiency level on TELPAS reading test, or • Showed progress on TELPAS reading from the prior year • 60% or higher must meet standard These two indicators are new for the 2010-2011 school year

Now What? • The Campus Improvement Plan will address • State Accountability: • Math • Special Education • Change to the STAAR assessment • Federal Accountability: • Special Education in Reading & Math • Access to the Regular Curriculum through Inclusion • Reducing the number of students who take STAAR Modified
Campus Goals • The District and each Campus will attain and maintain Exemplar rating As a Campus, we did not maintain Exemplary status. • We are at Exemplary levels with our scores in the area of Reading. • We are at Recognized levels with our scores in the area of Math and special education performance • The accountability system changed from last year to this year • Texas Projection Measure (TPM) was discontinued • All special education students scores (including the TAKS Modified and TAKS Alternate) were included • Commended Performance standards • English Language Learner (ELL) Progress standards • Our commitment is to continue to increase our percent passing and our advanced academic performance percentages as we move into the era of STAAR assessments
