  2. Expert 21 Vocabulary “Crisis on top of the World”

  3. conducive (adj) Meaning: tending to bring about a particular result Example: Marta’s house is not conducive to studying because her brothers are loud. Drinking excessive caffeine is not conducive to being able to sleep well.

  4. emission (noun) Meaning: something that is released into the atmosphere Example: Smoky black emissions came out of the old broken-down car. In order to bring down the level of greenhouse gases, we must decrease the amount of emissions from automobiles.

  5. insulation (noun) Meaning: material used to prevent the passage of heat out into the atmosphere Example: My new winter jacket gives me plenty of insulation against the cold wind and snow. Animals eat extra food in autumn in order to have natural insulation during the winter.

  6. convert (verb) Meaning: to change into another form Example: My uncle wants to convert his garage into an entertainment room. You can buy a special kit to convert an ordinary car into a specialized vehicle.

  7. diminish (verb) Example: My excitement about the concert will diminish if my favorite singer does not appear on stage. The longer you go without eating candy the more your desire for it will diminish. Meaning: to decrease or to become smaller, to lessen

  8. accustomed (adj) Meaning: to be familiar with something and think about it as normal Example: Since Johanna dyed her hair bright blue she is accustomed to being stared at. I will never become accustomed to sleeping with both the stereo and television blaring.

  9. attendant (noun) Meaning: someone who serves or waits on other people; a kind of server Example: I asked the flight attendant if I could have a second pair of headphones. There is usually an attendant at the gas station twenty-four hours a day.

  10. native (adj) Meaning: originally from a particular place; a person born in a specific place Example: Potato plants are native to North America and South America. If you were a native of Hawaii, you would probably have learned to surf and swim as a little child.
