Definition: • Faults are: The surface along which rocks move when they pass their “elastic limit” and break causing an Earthquake. What do you think “elastic limit” means?
Normal Fault http://Normal Simulation Caused by tension forces. The rock above the fault surface (hanging wall) moves downward in relation to rock below the fault surface.
Reverse Fault Reverse Simulation Caused by compression forces. The rock above the fault surface (hanging wall) is forced up and over the rock below the fault surface.
Transform/ Strike-Slip Fault Strike Slip Simulation Caused by shear forces. Rocks on either side of the fault are moving past each other without much up or down motion.
