  1. St Lucia St Lucia is a separate country but it’s in a group of islands called the West Indies in America.

  2. Facts n figures • St Lucia is in the Caribbean Sea. • Castries is the capital of St Lucia. • 616 km 2 is the size of St Lucia. • It is smaller than Shetland. • The population is six times the size of Shetland (156,260). • English is the main language inSt Lucia.

  3. Sport • Scuba diving is big in sport at St Lucia.They go diving in the sea. There are lots of animals where people dive.They also do fishing and much more. • Cricket is the most important sport in the West Indies but some people play basket ball.

  4. Wildlife • The St Lucia Parrot is endangered. • By 1975 as few as 100 parrots survived in the wild. • The forest was getting cut down and the parrots were getting shot. • They are educating people and protecting the forest to make the parrot less rare.

  5. Weather St Lucia is a warm place. It is coolest and driest from December to May. The hottest time in the year is June-August. During the hottest time of year, daytime temperatures can reach the 32-37 C. The rainy season is June-November.

  6. History • St Lucia was first settled by Arawak Indians about 200 A.D. • Christopher Columbus first landed in the West Indies in October 1492. And then Europeans started to arrive.

  7. Festivals • The jazz festival is the most popular in st Lucia • Pigeon Island is the home of the St. Lucia Jazz Festival. • Pigeon Island is one of the Caribbean's most historic landmarks

  8. Flag • The flag of St. Lucia was officially adopted on March 1, 1967. • The blue field represents the Caribbean Sea, and the triangles symbolize the island's famous Pitons - the twin volcanic peaks.

  9. Food • Callaloo soup, made from something similar to spinach, is the national dish • They also eat lots of curries, seafood and pepper pot stew • They have lots of tropical fruits including mangoes, papayas, pineapples, passion fruit, guavas, and coconuts.
