  1. CSci 8715 :Spatial Databases Spatial Data Warehouses : A Survey Group 4: Nipun Garg Surabhi Mithal http://www-users.cs.umn.edu/~smithal/

  2. Problem Statement • Input • Research literature on Spatial and Spatio-temporal data warehouses. • Output • Classification of research and issues on Spatial Data warehouses and presentation in a consolidated manner. • Analysis of trends like spatiotemporal data warehouses and why they are gaining importance. • Objectives • Effective grouping of topics • Good Coverage of literature. • Identification of future research areas.

  3. Key Concepts and topics • Indices for Spatial Data warehouses • aR-tree • GIST • R*a-tree • Spatiotemporal indexes :aRB-tree, aHRB-tree and a3DRB-tree. • Conceptual Models for Spatial Data warehouses • Spatial MultiDimER model • Spatial multidimensional model • Mapping of Conceptual model to Physical schema • Aggregation in Spatial Data warehouses • General Concepts • Formal model for spatial aggregation.

  4. Key Concepts and topics(2) • Selective materialization • General concepts • Object based selective materialization • Spatial OLAP: SOLAP • General SOLAP Concepts • Analysis of SOLAP tools • Benchmarking Spatial Data warehouses • Trends : Spatio temporal Data warehouses

  5. Proposed Approach & Classification • Finding relevant literature. • Identifying the key concepts and topics. • Classifying the papers by concepts. • Identifying future research areas for the topics.

  6. Proposed Approach & Classification(2) The papers referenced can be found here: http://www-users.cs.umn.edu/~smithal/HW4/P6.pdf

  7. TAXONOMY

  8. Importance/Why is the problem hard? • Importance • Relatively unexplored area from a survey perspective. • Gives an overview of all the relevant topics and potential research areas. • Challenges • Classification • Scattered information. • Difficult to consolidate. • Difficult to compare different approaches

  9. Novelty and Contribution • To our knowledge, there is no recent survey paper in literature on spatial data warehouses. • The following excel sheet displays the comparison of our topic organization with the organization of a survey on Spatio-temporal data warehousing which has a section on spatial data warehouses.
