Early Life • Born in London on 21st April 1926. • Father was Prince Albert. • Mother Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. • Born third in line to the throne.
World War II • Educated at home in Windsor Castle during the Blitz in 1940. • In 1945 the young Princess joined the war effort training as a driver in the Women's Auxiliary Territorial Service.
Princess, Wife, and Mother • Married in 1947 to distant cousin Philip Mountbatten. • The Princess used ration coupons to buy materials to make her wedding dress. • They had four children. • Their first born child was Prince Charles in 1948.
From Princess to Queen • Following the death of her father King George VI in 1952, Princess Elizabeth became the new Queen. • After months of preparation, Queen Elizabeth II was crowned at Westminster Abbey on the 2nd June 1953 • This was televised and the huge public celebrations were broadcast across the country, the Commonwealth, and the rest of the world!
