Available to groups and organisations within the Lancashire County Council administrative area. Community Waste Solutions can fund or part fund projects. All applications must demonstrate value for money for the funding authorities. Extra consideration will be given to projects that provide further benefits to the local community and environment in particular in terms of jobs, training and volunteer placements safeguarded or created.

  5. All About You..! Lancashire CRN Annual Conference 2012 Community Waste Solutions Funding is available in two tiers: Up to £2,500 Over £2,500 There is no set upper limit to funds available however all projects will be judged strictly on their “value for money”. Applications to the over £2,500 tier will be need to provide more detail with a well developed project plan, evidence of staff/organisation experience, evidence of need, business plan etc… We can also provide additional support and guidance to develop a project idea as well as on-going project management support.

  6. All About You..! Lancashire CRN Annual Conference 2012 Community Waste Solutions Benefits to Lancashire County Council as the funder: Diversion of waste to lower processing and disposal costs for LCC. Removal of detrimental elements from the waste stream such as WEEE to improve quality of outputs from the Thornton and Farington waste facilities Benefits to Community Groups: Enable you to receive funds to deal with particular waste streams and more importantly to develop sustainable projects with longer term income potential. We are particularly interested in projects that enable groups to become more financially sustainable.

  7. All About You..! Lancashire CRN Annual Conference 2012 Community Waste Solutions The scoring criteria is split: 80% weighting relating to diversion; 20% weighting for social outcomes, such as job creation.

  8. All About You..! Lancashire CRN Annual Conference 2012 Community Waste Solutions 80% weighting relating to diversion Will the project reduce waste / reuse materials / recycle materials / promote recycling and waste reduction / achieve behavioural change with regards to waste? Has the applicant evidenced the need for the project? Does the group have the capacity/capability and experience necessary to deliver the proposed project? Is the project likely to divert/reduce adequate amounts of waste in relation to funding requested?

  9. All About You..! Lancashire CRN Annual Conference 2012 Community Waste Solutions 80% weighting relating to diversion Has the applicant provided a clear, realistic and detailed project plan? The more you apply for, the more scrutiny will be applied. Does the application outline a clear and realistic monitoring strategy whereby actual tonnages of waste diverted or behavioural change can be determined? Does the project have longer term sustainability/exit strategy? Funding is unlikely to be awarded for projects that will not be sustained after the funding has been used.

  10. All About You..! Lancashire CRN Annual Conference 2012 Community Waste Solutions 20% weighting for social outcomes Although not essential, the following criteria will contribute to the remaining 20% of scoring points available: Will the project create or safeguard: Paid employment posts? Training placements (with end qualification)? Volunteer placements?

  11. All About You..! Lancashire CRN Annual Conference 2012 Community Waste Solutions Priorities: Bulky Waste, WEEE and difficult waste streams Notkerbside collected materials i.e. household paper, glass, cans, cardboard, plastic bottles Amount: No upper limit however the higher the amount, the more scrutinised the project will be, more information required Less likely to fund any risks Funding for 2012-13: We think funding will be available in a very similar format next year although budgets have not been set
