The Laude System • The purpose of the Laude System is to recognize students for the rigor of their academic course work as well as their successes in that course. This award system was initiated with the class of 2015. • Waunakee, Baraboo and River Valley Schools have this program.
The Laude Philosophy • The traditional system of class rank does not distinguish between an A in a pre-college course and an A in a low-level math course. Under the system, both the A’s are given the same weight in the GPA. It is not “apples to apples”. • Schools that have adopted the Laude system see a higher acceptance rate to colleges, including more competitive colleges. • This forces colleges to look beyond class rank including rigor, test scores, and other data.
