About BioWare • BioWare develops console, PC, and online role-playing games There main focus is to create rich stories, epic remarkable characters, and vast worlds for the player to discover. Quote from site: • “BioWare's vision is to create, deliver, and evolve the most emotionally engaging games in the world.”
The beginning of BioWare • Ray and Greg medical students • Started programming medical education software in 1994. • Augustine came along with his artistic flare shortly after. • The trio’s first project, the Acid-Base Simulator was then finished. • Not happy sticking with a career in medicine the guys hooked up with several programmers and artists and BioWare Corp. became a reality on February 1, 1995 in a small room in Greg’s basement.
Employment opportunities at BioWare • Under the 'game design' section there are currently only two jobs available one is a cinematic animator role and the other is a senior level designer. • BioWare does have a section for interns to apply to this is definitely something I will consider doing once I have finished my degree. • "Additionally, all our interns are treated like established members of the team and contribute as much as regular employees. Interns and graduates are the future of BioWare." General Manager
A bit about the Boss and co! • The studio GM at Edmonton is Aaryn Flynn. This guy is the manager, he started as a programmer at the company over a decade ago. He has basically grown up here (hence the 'EA' family thing). He has the on going challenge of balancing the needs of the company with the needs of the employee. • Biowareemploys a range of individuals from Keith a lead world designer to Andrea a lead game play programmer (See below):
The dream job! • BioWare is part of them Ea 'family', they have multiple studios and many games teams! It is my dream to work for this company because they have developed several of my favourite games these include: Dragon age origins and the Mass effect. I would love to work as a 3d modeller at Edmonton, Canada in particular!
Skills I need to apply • Essential skill-set:-Medium/low polygon modelling-Texture creation-Excellent problem solving and technical skills-3D Studio Max-Adobe Photoshop • Experience of the following is beneficial:-V-Ray-Texture baking-Team leadership
Questions?! • I couldn’t find Bio Ware's 3d modellers salary! (but does it really matter?)
