DIDST: Optional Book Presentation • Objective: • SWBAT showcase their understanding of their choice book’s purpose by discussing its major issues, themes, and calls to action. • SWBAT identify and analyze the rhetorical devices that the book uses to achieve its purpose. • Including DIDST, PAPA, appeals to rhetoric, etc.
GROUPS • Depending on the number of people in your class that read the same book as you, groups will be around 4-5 students per group. • If there are multiple groups, each group will be in charge of a different rhetorical element.
Presentation Requirements • COVER SLIDE: Book title & author/ Names • Slide #1: Introduction • Slide #2: Explanation of Purpose • Slide #3: Rhetorical Analysis 1 • Slide #4: Rhetorical Analysis 2 • Slide #5: Rhetorical Analysis 3 • Slide #6: Most important/surprising facts & details found in the book • Slide #7: Intended Audience & Tone
Reminders: • All text on the slide should remain professional, formal, and educational. • Make the text clearly visible to the audience. • Visuals may be used to enhance the presentation. • All group members must take turns presenting.
Today: • As a group, divide up the required slides and begin researching and outlining your ideas. The more you have done, the better off you will be. • Each person should be in charge of 2 slides. • You may use your summer reading homework to aid you in finding passages.
Tonight/Tomorrow • Tonight: Each group member will find at least two passages that demonstrate rhetorical strategies & bring it tomorrow for the group to discuss. • Tomorrow: Computer lab to begin putting together your Powerpoint presentations with your group.
Presentations • Groups will be presenting on Thursday and Friday of this week. • Each group will be graded on: • Depth of analysis • Content of the presentation • Speaking skills • Visual appeal • Understanding of the purpose, audience of the book
