Chapter 27 The Resurrection … (The God who won’t stay in the grave and won’t leave you there either…) Luke 24:5 … “Why do you look for the Living among the dead? 6 He is not here; He has risen!
A Saturday state of mind …moving to a Sunday reality The first Easter Sunday was so good because the day before had been so bad. Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion while Sunday celebrates Resurrection. The Saturday in between commemorates desperation …
Saturday reactions: Judas in regret hung himself … thinking No Hope! Jesus disciples hiding in fear and panic Mary, the women, Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus were planning to honor the fallen teacher through proper burial…
Today in the Story we’re Celebrating Resurrection • Resurrection promise rings all through the Bible … like a Great secret hidden until just the Right Time… 2. The Over Story of God’s love sounds with every increasing volume until: Luke 24:6 “He is not here …. He is Risen just as He said.”
CHRIST IS RISEN! Today is not Easter but the Truth of Christ’s Resurrection is a vital and valid today as it was last April.
My problem is not Believing that Christ rose from the Dead way back there … My problem is believing everyday that He rose from the dead for me and that makes all the difference now in my life.
Eugene Peterson: “We live in a world ruled by the God of Exodus and Easter.”
The Resurrection: The Story p. 316-317 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might got to anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?”
The Story … p. 316 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; He has risen, just as he said.
The Story … p. 316 -317 Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.” So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell His disciples. … p. 317 Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying.
The Story … p. 317 As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot. They asked her, “Why are you crying?” They have taken the body of my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.” At this she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but did not realize that it was Jesus.
The Story … p. 317 He asked her, Woman, why are you crying? “Who are you looking for?” Thinking that he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.” Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni” (which means “Teacher”).
The Story … p. 317 Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ “ Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them that he had said these things to her.

The Tomb is not empty today … but filled with Resurrection Life … John 20:3-9 So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb. 4 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. 6 Then Simon Peter, who was behind him, arrived and went into the tomb.
Filled with Resurrection life John 20:6b-9 He saw the strips of linen lying there, 7 as well as the burial cloth that had been around Jesus’ head. The cloth was folded up by itself, separate from the linen. 8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. 9 (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.)
