  2. Golden Ratio Plan elevation Plan Elevation As a result of analyzing this composition, especially the plan view, it becomes obvious that the layout displays some evidence of the golden ratio. The proportional relationship of the rectilinear shapes to one other, is based upon the idea of experimenting with structure and alignment. They are arranged in a descending order from the top being the least thickest, to the bottom being the most thickest. The flat piece at the top is simply a much thinner and scaled down version of the bottom grounded shape placed so that it has a slight overhang. However the middle block displays a more extended overhang and is placed offset on the compact bottom. I arranged the top piece so that it closes the gap created by the offset. In this way the alignment plays with the negative and positive space surrounding the composition and there is some disorder in the way that the blocks have been arranged.

  4. Front Elevation Plan Elevation After analyzing this composition, it appears that my layout displays the rule of thirds. On the photograph of the front elevation, the eye is drawn 1/3 of the way in on the left hand side of the page, this is where the proportional relationship of the rectilinear shapes become apparent. The decisions I took when arranging the blocks were a result of experimenting with the idea of imbalance and scale. The compact center block, set largely offset on the bottom flat rectangular piece, gives the form a sense of imbalance and instability. Despite the offset of the middle block on the flat bottom, the form is stable. This is because of the large surface area of the bottom rectangular block, as it extends in the opposite direction to the bulky middle offset. As a result, the weight is distributed allowing the composition to balance out .
