Characteristics • The Water Hemlock can grow to be 2-10 feet tall • The leaves can grow to be 2-5 inches long • They have tiny white flowers ( no more the 1/8 inch across. • They have 5 petals • Appear in loose compound Umbels (2-8 inches across) at branch ends in mid summer
Where It Grows?? • Grows mostly in North America. • Water Hemlock grows in moist areas like, wet meadows and pastures. • Also found in banks of ponds or streams, it is similar to the larger poisonous Hemlock.
Why It’s Dangerous… • Water Hemlock is the most violent and toxic plant. • There is only a little amount needed in the system before it kills livestock and or humans.
Symptoms • Muscle Tremors (Muscle spasms) which can develop into violent convulsions and respiratory shutdown.. • There are early signs which is constant salvation and frothing may occur as quick as 15 minutes after ingestion. • The convulsions can be severe, they involve head and neck throws • Also the legs flex as if the animal or human were running and abdominal pain is present along with grinding of the teeth.
