  2. Content Introduction Definition Materials Types of Structure Conclusion

  3. INTRODUCTION In this time we´ll be talking about the history, the different materials, the construction and the types of a framed structure

  4. DEFINITIOn/MATERIALS • Structuresupportedby a skeletonor a framed. • Can be of wood, reinforced concrete orsteel. • Rigidframes must be fixed joints.

  5. TYPES • American light wood frame • The heavy timber frame

  6. HEAVY TIMBER FRAME The heavy timber frame, in which large posts, spaced relatively far apart, support thick floors and roof beams, was the commonest type of construction in eastern Asia and northern Europe from prehistoric times to the mid-19thcentury. In the heavy-timber system, the beams are strong enough to allow the upper story and roof projecting further from the ground floor thus increasing protection against climate conditions and size of the building. THE LIGTH FRAME The American light wood frame(balloon frame) , composed of many small and closely spaced members that could be handled easily and assembled quickly by nailing instead of by the slow joinery and dowelling of the past. Is sheathed with vertical or horizontal boarding or shingling, which is jointed or overlapped for weather protection.

  7. STEEL FRAME Steel framing is based on the same principle but is much simplified by the great force that the material provided with fewer members because the load capacity that can take the steel is much higher than other materials. The column and beam are fused by riveting or welding, so stresses are distributed between them, and both can be longer and lighter than in structures in which they work independently as post-and-lintel

  8. CONCLUSION We can conclude that a framestructure, is a buildingtechniquebasedaroundstructuralmembers, whichprovide a stableframetowhich interior and exterior wall coverings are attached, and covered by a roof comprising horizontal ceiling joists and sloping rafters all of which are covered by various sheathing materials to give weather resistance.
