  9. humility

  10. Humble: Not proud or arrogant; modest; courteously respectful: to not think of yourself more highly than you ought.

  11. Humble: Not proud or arrogant; modest; courteously respectful: to not think of yourself more highly than you ought. Jesus’ Humility: STRENGTH under the FATHER’S control.

  12. Philippians 2:2-4 …make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

  13. Question to Discuss at your Table: What do you hear God saying in these verses?

  14. …make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. (Phil. 2:2-4) What do you hear God saying in these verses?

  15. Another Question to Reflect on: What is God saying to me personally through this scripture for MY life?

  16. …make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. (Phil. 2:2-4) What is God saying to me personally through this scripture for MY life?

  17. …make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. Vs. 5:  In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: --Christians can only have Christ’s mindset through the power of the Holy Spirit!--

  18. Mark 10:35-37 35 Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to him. “Teacher,” they said, “we want you to do for us whatever we ask.”    36 “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. 37 They replied, “Let one of us sit at your right and the other at your left in your glory.”

  19. Mark 10:38 38 “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said. “Can you drink the cup I drink or be baptized with the baptism I am baptized with?”

  20. Mark 10:41-42 41 When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John. 42 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.

  21. Mark 10:43-45 43Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

  22. Discussion for your table: What was the mindset of James and John? What types of prideful mindsets do we as Christians need to confess before we can serve in humility? -Contrast these to the mindset of Jesus.

  23. Mark 10:43-45 Jesus’ emphasis on SERVING! 43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

  24. “Mark 10:43-45” From a “Self” perspective: 43 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be a volunteer, 44 and whoever wants to be first must be volunteer of the year. 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to volunteer, and to give up some of his time as a ransom for many.”

  25. What about each of us?

  26. Discuss the difference between being a Servant and Volunteer.

  27. Difference between Servant & Volunteer

  28. How might WE serve with the Mind of Christ in our particular ministry? -relate this to the ministry you are involved in

  29. Mark 10:45 Jesus’ emphasis on SERVING! 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

  30. Commissioning of Servant-leaders

  31. 1 Peter 5:1-6 1 To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed: 2 Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; 3 not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.

  32. 1 Peter 5:1-6 4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.  5 …All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because,    “God opposes the proud    but shows favor to the humble.” 6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
