B737 GPS/FMS Part 3: Part Task Trainer (PTT)
Topics • Introduction • PTT Components • File Menu • EFIS • MCDU
File Menu MCDU EFIS The PTT consists of three major parts: The File menu: controls the operating program The EFIS are displays emulating some of those found on the aircraft The MCDU is a replica of the MCDU found on the aircraft
Important To make a selection with the file menu, the mouse and computer keyboard are used. To make a selection on the MCDU, the MCDU’s alpha-numeric keyboard and mouse are used.
File Menu: Position 2 x TAS: doubles TAS selected in SPD SEL. Used to accelerate the aircraft along the flight plan Pause: freezes PTT action. To return to normal, reselect Pause Reset: Clears the existing flight plan and allows a fresh start
File Menu: Position: Modify Allows the user to change the aircraft position Selections include moving the aircraft to a defined latitude/longitude, to a particular waypoint and to a specific altitude
File Menu: Nav Mode Allows the selection of navigation sensors. Since CAI’s installation is a sole sensor GPS, all others should be deselected
File Menu: DLU DLU (Data Loader Unit): this features emulates the data loader used to install navigation data bases. Select the appropriate navigation database file for use with the PTT
File Menu: Cross FMU Not applicable to CAI’s installation
File Menu: Wind Winds: this selection is used to input a wind for the flight
EFIS Displays and Controls Aircraft Status: <160 kts, aircraft is on the ground >160 kts and ACT ALT<ALT SEL, climbing and ACT ALT=ALT SEL, level flight and ACT ALT>ALT SEL, descent ACT ALT: the aircraft’s actual altitude
EFIS Displays and Controls Aircraft Performance Data: Groundspeed (GS) TAS Wind Wind Vector Actual Heading HDG Select ETE and Distance to next waypoint
EFIS Displays and Controls EFIS Display Controller (selectable) EFIS Range Controller (selectable) Annunciators: these emulate the annunicators installed on the B737 instrument panel ALRT: alert MSG: message GPS INT: GPS integrity OFST: offset GPS APPR CAP: GPS approach capture
EFIS Displays and Controls Aircraft Switches: TOGA: emulates the TOGA on the throttles HDG SEL/LNAV: allows the HDG SEL or FMS to steer the aircraft APPR ARM: indicates that the necessary conditions to perform a GPS approach have been satisfied
EFIS Displays and Controls Aircraft Performance Selectors: uses the “-” to decrease and the “+” to increase values SPD SEL: changes the aircraft’s TAS ALT SEL: changes the aircraft’s desired altitude HDG SEL: changes the commanded heading
EFIS Display Mode Attitude Direction Indicator Identical to ADI/Flight Director
EFIS Display Mode Map: a moving map display with the aircraft located a the bottom of the display
EFIS Display Mode Plan Mode: “Big Picture” view of the flight plan. The center of the display is moved by the “MAP CTR Step” control on the LEGS page of MCDU
EFIS Display Mode • Horizontal Situation Indicator (HSI) • Identical to that found in the aircraft • Track bar • To/From pointer • HDG bug
EFIS Display Mode Map Scale: used with MAP and PLAN mode to adjust the map scale
