  8. Admission Requirements • Completed application and a sixty dollar ($60) non-refundable fee. • Official transcripts verifying bachelor’s, master’s, post bachelor’s degree credits. • GPA of 3.25 or above (3.0 for SPED).

  9. Admission Requirements • Current Teaching License (Level 1 for M.Ed.; Level 2 for LEAD). • Verification of years of teaching (2 years for M.Ed.; 3 years for LEAD). • Attend Orientation. • Admission Essay/LEAD Pre-Assessment. • Admission Committee Approval.

Purpose of Admission Essay • Sample of your writing as measure of preparation to do graduate-level work. • Your essay will NOT disqualify you. • Plagiarism WILL disqualify you. • If you use other people’s thoughts, words, and ideas, you MUST credit them by appropriately paraphrasing, quoting, and citing according to APA guidelines.

Admission Procedures • Submit all required documents. • Meet all requirements and attend Orientation. • Follow e-mailed instructions for Admission Essay and LEAD Pre-Assessment.We MUST have your e-mail address! • Once notified of admission, you may register. • Be prompt! You may be put on a waiting list for admission in a later semester.

  12. Transfer Credits & Course Substitutions • Must be graduate-level courses. • Taken within ten (10) years of completing graduate program. • Submit electronic copies of syllabi for review. • Submit official transcripts. • Submit to Shelley or Sandy for Program Director approval.

  20. Master of Education (36 hours) 8 Core Classes x 3 credits = 24 credits 4 Elective Classes x 3 credits = 12 credits Tuition Cost* Approximately $11,241 SUBJECT TO CHANGE *Based on suggested 6-6-9 credit course load. Does not include books or fees.

Elective Options Areas of Concentration/Endorsements: • Educational Technology (5000-level only*) • Elementary Mathematics (5000 only) • English as a Second Language (5000 or 6000 at SUU) • Gifted and Talented (5000 only) • Library Media (6000 at SUU only, Web courses) • Reading (5000 only) • Special Education Mild/Moderate (6000 at SUU only) *5000-level courses taught by District personnel using SUU syllabi.

  22. M.Ed. 12-Credit Elective Options • Any 6000-level GSE courses not required for the M.Ed. Core or for the Administrative License may be taken as electives. • Up to 6 credits of approved 5000-level courses plus 6 credits of 6000-level courses. • Up to 12 credits of Utah state-approved, 5000-level courses from a completed endorsement or other SUU approved program; must appear on official transcripts on file with SUU.

  23. M.Ed. Thesis OR Portfolio Thesis Option: • EDUC 6650 & EDUC 6933: Conduct research on educational problem, collect and analyze data, write, defend, and publish your report. Portfolio Option: • EDUC 6652 & EDUC 6932: Prepare portfolio to demonstrate your achievement of National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

SPED License (24-30 hours) Summer Hybrid Program 4 Series A Classes x 3 credits = 12 credits 3 Series B Classes x 3 credits = 9 credits Student Teaching = 3-9 credits Students without current teaching license may be required to take more content courses (depending on their background) to become highly qualified.

  27. Courses Common to M.Ed. and 42-hour LEAD Program • Only three (3) courses are required for both programs: EDUC 6000, 6410, 6740 • If you decide to switch programs, you MUSTmeet requirements of the program to which you are switching.

Administrative License • Complete core first; THEN Internships. • Some Internship Hours completed during 7 of the 10 core courses: Up to 10 hours per core class, 70 hours possible. • For out-of-state administrative students NOT earning a Utah license: It is YOUR responsibility to assure ALL courses meet your own state’s requirements.

  31. Internship Discussion • ADVISE your current administrator that you will be completing four (4) internships totaling 450 HOURS of administrative work. • You will need some flexibility in your schedule, and you will need the support of your administrator.

Internship Application & Forms • REVIEW FORMS #20, #21, and #22 on the Admission Orientation Instructions web page. • Check with your Human Resources Dept. for forms and deadlines for these School Districts: Canyons, Jordan, Murray, Sevier, Tooele, and Washington • Submit all to Shelley Dahlin for signatures.

  33. PRAXIS II 0411 or 5411 #23www.ets.org • Educational Leadership: Administration and Supervision • You MUST list Utah State Office of Education AND Southern Utah University as recipients for your Praxis scores. • Send copy of all 3 pages of test results to your Intern Supervisor. Cut Score 151

MySUU Portal • MySUU is main access point to YOUR info as a student (e.g., courses, accounts, etc.). • Go there (http://suu.edu/) to activate account and to get your username and password. • Specify your preferred e-mail address. • MySUUrequires you to UPDATE INFO each semester; also inform Sandy or Shelley. • DegreeWorks: Track your own progress to graduation.* It’s YOUR responsibility!*Graduation in fall, spring, or summer, but ceremonies only in May each year.

  35. Distance Learning #10 • Hybrid online with some “live” class time on IVC, Adobe Connect Pro, Skype, Google Hangouts, etc. • With IVC, you usually go to a local site. • RECOMMENDED EQUIPMENT for Adobe Connect Pro, Skype, etc.: • Web camera • Headset with microphone

Canvas Guide #18 • All course materials (except textbooks) are provided on Canvas. • On first day of class, access your courses on Canvas via MySUU Portal. • Some professors contact you prior to the start of a course, some do not. Regardless, you CANNOT access Canvas courses before first day of class.
