The Desktop is the on-screen work area on which windows appears
Icons: picture representation of software programs • Default: factory settings of hardware and software. • Hardware: components • Software: programs • Patch Cord: connects computers to server • Server: main computers that routes computers to internet, printing and network • Network: cyberspace location of files that allows computers to “speak” to each other. • Hub: Housing unit for patch cords on their way to the server.
Start Menu • The StartButton is the button through which we can access the entire breadth of options that Windows XP offers us. • We also find all the programs that we have been using lately. In this example, MSN, Windows Media Player, ... This way we have quicker access to the programs that we most frequently used. • On the right hand area there are icons to access the different parts of WindowsXP that are most often used: My documents, My Recent Documents, My Pictures, My Music and My Computer.
Why is the program called Windows? Allows computer users to open many programs, documents, mail, internet all at once.
