  1. Background Information • A Skylit Drive album cover from 2007 EP titled She Watched the Sky. • The bands first album after becoming signed by Tragic Hero Records. • Singer Jordan Blake left the band mid-tour after releasing the album due to ulcers. He never returned to A Skylit Drive but joined a new band referred to as Razing Alexandria.

  2. Audience • The audience of this album art is directed to anyone that listens to the band or anyone browsing music in the post-hardcore genre.

  3. Focus • The focus is directed towards the crystal ball filled with clouds and the white blindfold worn by the girl. These are emphasized to show that the girl can not see but it is almost as if she holds a small world in her hands.

  4. Layout • Foreground • -The focus is on the crystal ball filled with clouds. The girl holding the ball is blindfolded and also lies directly in the center of the picture. • Background • -the background is composed of dark colors filled with clouds contrasted by the white tank top of the girl as well as the blindfold.

  5. Irony • The irony lies in the title of the album. She Watched the Sky is contradicted by the fact that the girl is blindfolded showing that there is no way she could watch the sky in her hands but only touch and hear it.

  6. Symbolism • The picture symbolizes that we don’t always have to focus on the things we see. Every aspect of life that we hear and feel is just as important.

  7. Technique • Color – The artist uses a lot of contrast in the color. Shades of blue and gray are continuously contrasted by pure white. • Emphasis – Your eyes are immediately drawn to the crystal ball full of clouds being held by the girl.

  8. Appeal • Logos – This appeals to our logic because we see that there is no way that she can envision the sky in her hands. • Pathos – A feeling of confusion as well as curiosity. It forces us to analyze the picture and look beyond what we see.

  9. Questions • Why do you think the artist chose to blindfold the girl? • What effect do the clouds in the background have on the picture as a whole? • Why do you think the artist chose to omit the band’s name on the cover?
