Five Pillars of Islam. Iman (Faith). Is the acceptance of Allah and he is the one and only god. Belief that Muhammad is his messenger. The only purpose in life is to serve and obey Allah. Salah (Prayer). Must pray five time each and everyday.

Iman (Faith) • Is the acceptance of Allah and he is the one and only god. • Belief that Muhammad is his messenger. • The only purpose in life is to serve and obey Allah.
Salah (Prayer) • Must pray five time each and everyday. • There is no Hierarchy in Islam like there is in Christianity. • Prayers are said at dawn, mid-day, late-afternoon, sunset, and nightfall. • It is preferable to pray at a Mosque, but not required. • Calling to Prayer at Mecca.
Zakah (Charity) • Translated at “Purity” and “Growth.” • It is Islamic belief that everything belongs to Allah, and wealth by humans is trusted by Allah. • Each individual is responsible for giving, but are required to give at least 1/40thof their money.
Sawm (Fasting) • Every year in the month of Ramada-n, all muslim’s must fast from sunup to sundown. • Those who are sick are permitted to break the fast, but are required to make up missed days later in the year. • Is seen as method of self-purification and self-restraint. • Allows them to focus on God, by constantly being aware of God’s presence.
Haji (Pilgrimage) • All believers of Islam, must make at least one pilgrimage to Mecca in their life time. • Over 2 million people go to Mecca each year. • Wear simple clothes so that the rich and poor can not be distinguished. • The close of the hajj is marked by a festival, the 'Id al Adha.
