  3. 1. Caste System • A. An ascribed status system • B. Effort and talent can improve life within the caste, but not elevate you to another level. • C. Exogamy- practice that allows one to marry outside his or her caste. • D. Endogamy- practice that allows only for one to marry within his or her caste.

  4. 2. Class system • A. System based on achieved status • B. Bourgeoisie and proletariat are examples of classes.

  6. 1. Wealth • Made up of assets • Assets are the value of everything the person owns. • Income is the money earned through salaries, investment returns, or other capital gains.

  7. 2. Power • The ability to control the behavior of others, with or without their consent

  8. 3. Prestige • a) The respect, honor, recognition or courtesy an individual receives from other members of society.
