McMurdo Dry Valleys Long Term Ecological Research Program Coordination • People • Data contributions • Directions
Interested people in the MCM-LTER Geochemistry • Berry Lyons, Byrd Polar Research Center, Ohio State Soil ecology and biogeochemistry • Ross Virginia and Jeb Barrett, Dartmouth College • Diana Wall, Colorado State University Contemporary and paleo-climate, met- station network • Andrew Fountain, Portland State University • Peter Doran, University of Illinois Chicago
Potential Data Contributions From MCM-LTER Information on soils, soil biology and biogeochemistry • Online spatially explicit soils database • Spatial scaling and patterning of soil biology and biogeochemistry Meteorological Station Network • LAWN network • Soil microclimate network
The LTER Automatic Weather Network (LAWN) 13 stations (see map) Stations routinely sample sensors every 30 sec. Summary statistics are logged (avg, min, max, ect) every 15 min. to solid state storage modules.

Online public access met data • Relational database • Search queries for specific times and locations • Full meta-data for all observations http://huey.colorado.edu/LTER/meteordata.html John.E.Barrett@Dartmouth.edu
What are the data collection priorities of the Antarctic permafrost community? How can LTER contribute to Antarctic permafrost community? • What are the opportunities through existing data • and ongoing routine data collection? • What are the opportunities for new initiatives and collaboration?
