  2. Boat Panting and Varnishing There are many tips to follow for a successful boat panting and varnishing job, from preparation to Temperature and patience. Below are some tips to help you get started on your boat panting and varnishing project.

  3. Prepare for a varnish job Remove all hardware, including lights, bilge pumps, and steering wheels. This can take some time, but will make the job much easier. Also, remember that you will need to allow for a 48-hour cure time Normally, around 6 to 8 times of varnishes are needed for a boat, but at times it can go upto 10.

  4. Preparation Before you begin, make sure that you have cleaned the wood well, sanded it lightly, and primed it. Before applying a topcoat, any bare wood must be painted with a primer. At least one coat is needed for this step, and two coats are better.

  5. Temperatures Temperatures over 85 degrees can cause varnish to set up too fast and cause bubbles and brush marks. If you must work outside, wear a dust-free hair- covering and bring plenty of clean tack cloth.

  6. Additives The majority of boat varnishes contain various additives for UV protection. These ingredients are not particularly important to most sailors, but they should be considered if you're planning on panting and varnishing your boat.
