Velocette Side panel fixings Images and measurements provided by George Tofield Presentation by Mark Rayner Sept 2012
Side panel fixing bolts 5/16 BSF thread The side panels are secured to the bike via 6 x 5/16 bolts. These have an oversized head in order to spread the load on the fibreglass panels. In addition there should be a washer placed beneath bolt head when fitting. This should be a little larger than the head itself. Since I was unable to buy the item, I had some made up in Stainless steel.
Velocette side panel fixings This steel part is riveted to the front of one of the panels The other panel is passed over the first panel and the 5/16 bolt is then screwed in.
Footrest fixing There are two rear footrest plates, each placed behind the rear footrest on each side of the bike. The plate needs to lean forward, approx 10 o'clock for LHS or 2 o'clock for the other side. The 3/8 slot takes the bolt for the rear footrests. The welded on nut Is used to take the Side panel fixing bolds
Primary side fixings 1 The primary side fixing provides two functions. The first is to retain the outer primary cover half and also the LHS side panel. There needs to be a threaded dowel and washer beneath the hex fixing as shown.
Primary side fixings 2- battery blade This fixing on the LHS of the bike is additionally the blade that secures the bike battery. Normally this blade is made without the top hat fitting. I had to purchase the blade with the top hat from Mike Fotherby.
