  2. What is a Mechanical Drafting? It is a type of technical drawing that shows the information about the machinery or other mechanical device and how it is to be constructed. The person who is preparing a detailed working diagrams of machinery and mechanical devices is called Mechanical Drafter.

  3. How does mechanical drafter relate to technical drawing? A mechanical drafter converts the designs of engineers, architects, or any designer into technical drawings and plans. The drawings visually communicate how something functions or how it has to be constructed. Therefore, a mechanical drafter must have extensive knowledge of technical drawing. The mechanical drafter uses technical drawing that is used to build projects.

  4. Job Description for Mechanical Drafting Prepare layouts that show details for a wide variety of machinery and mechanical devices. These layouts indicate dimensions, fastening methods, and other requirements needed for assembly.

  5. Education needed for Mechanical Drafting Postsecondary education in drafting, typically an associate’s degree from a technical institute or community college. Must have knowledge of drafting standards, engineering technology, science, and mathematics. CADD (Computer Aided Design and Drafting) background and well-developed mechanical drawing and drafting skills.
